The human population in 2020 was about 7.8 billion according to WorldPopulationReview.com and 730 million people live in over 11 000 islands permanently, throughout the world's oceans, lakes, and seas. However, these 11,000 are just a small fraction of all the islands that exist throughout the world.

What do we mostly consider to be an island?

When we look at the world map we see these tiny pieces of land scatted and surrounded by oceans, lakes, and seas. And in many cases, we categorize them as "Islands" Sizes of islands differ, many are populated and have vegetation, large and small trees.

WorldPopulationReview.com put it nicely when it comes to defining what an island is. I Quote: It is incredibly hard to define what constitutes an island, and even more difficult to generate an accurate estimate that abides by any one definition. For example, would you consider an exposed boulder in a rushing river to be an island? What about a sandy outcropping on a beach, separated from the rest of the shore by high tide? Even with the most rigid of definitions, the world's island population is as dynamic as any organism's. With such subjectivity in definition and such dependence on the current season or tide level, it is next to impossible to calculate the total number of islands on Earth. Fortunately, we can make an educated guess by splicing together the numbers reported by independent nations as well as some more commonly known unclaimed territories, end of quote.

You must be wondering why I raised this question about islands🧐 are we about history now? Not all! We are not going back to school. Sometimes it's always wonderful to know a little about our planet. So that when we hike in a beautiful green forest and a white sanded beach, we enjoy every moment of it.

So my fellow bloggers please feel free to leave a comment about the joys and adventurous time you had on your vacation.

Catch you on the next island to explore.
